Mississippi Delta joined Delta Alliance During the Delta2010 conference in New Orleans, Dr. Robert Twilley of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette accepted the invitation to become the coordinator of the Mississippi Wing of Delta Alliance.

Round-up of 2010 Delta Alliance achieved a lot in its second phase. The network has officially been launched, its first projects have been completed, and both in terms of organisational as network development many activities have been undertaken. However, for the third phase (starting in January 2011), many challenges lie still ahead.

Delta Alliance Kick-off Workshop for the Rotterdam Conference The day before the start of the Rotterdam Deltas in Times of Climate Change conference, a group came together at the Zeetoren in Hoek van Holland to describe the type of organization Delta Alliance should become. The group included people from Vietnam, Indonesia, China, USA, Netherlands, and Bangladesh who are helping to establish the Delta Alliance network in these locations.

With Launch of Delta Alliance, an Increased Focus on Climate Change and Delta Regions in the Americas On October 1 in Rotterdam, representatives from 6 countries signed the Delta Alliance declaration, a statement on the value of the world’s deltas and the importance of international cooperation for improving their resilience. The network supports the development and dissemination of new and existing knowledge on how river delta regions may respond to the challenges that they face, in particular those that come with a changing climate.

Winners DeltaCompetition2010 In cooperation with Royal Haskoning and the City of Rotterdam, Delta Alliance organized the DeltaCompetition2010. This worldwide competition challenged students to come up with creative and innovative solutions for delta cities that are under increasing pressure due to climate change. The three winning submissions were presented during the conference ‘Deltas in Times of Climate Change’ on September 30 in Rotterdam.

Delta Alliance officially launched - Delta Alliance declaration signed Representatives from six delta countries signed the Delta Alliance declaration during a ceremony at the conference ‘Deltas in Times of Climate Change’ in Rotterdam on 30 Sept 2010. The signing ceremony symbolized also the official launch of Delta Alliance and the start of international cooperation towards resilient deltas.

Deltas learn from each other The launch of the alliance took place during the international conference 'Deltas in times of Climate Change'. 'But we have actually been working on this on a smaller scale for the past eighteen months', explains programme manager Wim van Driel (Alterra). Alterra is acting as secretary for the alliance. The Netherlands (Rhine-Maas) laid the foundation for the collaborative venture together with Vietnam (Mekong), Indonesia (Ciliwung) and California (California Bay).
