Organisation

The Foundation Delta Alliance International was established in June 2011 and is managed by an International Secretariat and an International Governing Board. The director of the Delta Alliance International, Renske Peters, coordinates the interaction between the International Governing Board, Advisory Committee and the International Secretariat.

International Governing Board
The International Governing Board consists of persons with extensive experience in global delta issues. Main tasks include approval of the recommendations of the Advisory Committee, approval of finances and reporting. The Board is chaired by Pavel Kabat.

  • Chair: Professor Dr. Pavel Kabat, Director General and Chief Executive Officer, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Austria (from November 2017)
  • Richard Damania, Global Lead Economist, World Bank Water Practice, The World Bank
  • Dr. Lifeng Li, Director Freshwater at WWF International
  • Henk Ovink, Special Envoy for International Water Affairs at Kingdom of the Netherlands
  • Prof. András Szöllösi, former rector UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, the Netherlands

Mrs. Tineke Huizinga, former Dutch minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, acted as chair till November 2017.

Advisory Committee
Main tasks include formulating recommendations to the International Governing Board in the field of strategy, scientific tendencies and technologies in relation to deltas, reviewing and evaluating current projects in the field of scientific research and development, developing scientific policy plans and strategies, and giving solicited as well as unsolicited advice to the International Governing Board.
Members: the Advisory Committee consists of the coordinators of Wings.

Wings
The Wings are networks of organisations in a specific country or area, which is dealing with delta-related issues in a specific country or area. A Wing must be recognised as such and admitted to the Foundation by the International Governing Board. Currently, Delta Alliance International includes 18 Wings.

Director
Kim van Nieuwaal is director of Delta Alliance International and coordinates the interaction between the International Governing Board, Advisory Committee and the International Secretariat.

Till November 2017 Renske Peters acted as director of the Delta Alliance.

International Secretariat
The International Secretariat is based in the Netherlands and is amongst others responsible for supporting the International Governing Board and the Advisory Committee, carrying out administration and documentation tasks, initiating and coordinating project activities and organising and taking part in international meetings, seminars and workshops.
The Delta Alliance secretariat is supported by the Dutch Partners for Water Programme.
