One of the conclusions of DIMI’s last “Deltas & Ports of the Future” session is that there is increasingly a need for integrated approaches that balance urbanization, economic development, ecological quality, and social welfare in urbanized deltas. Although there is consensus that an integrated approach is needed it still lacks knowledge on how to combine methods of engineering, design and policy sciences.
This colloquium will present theories and methods of integrated engineering and design and reflect upon several recent multidisciplinary research projects in which researchers from multiple domains worked together on challenges of deltas.
Speakers:
- Joannes Visser – Integrated design: theories, frames and methods
- Mark Voorendt – Integrated design and engineering of multi-functional flood defenses
- Baukje Kothuis – Lessons learned from multidisciplinary research programs
- Taneha Baccin – Delta Interventions – design and engineering in urban delta landscapes
Drinks afterwards!
