New director and chair Delta AllianceThe Delta Alliance is entering a new phase. The implementation of Paris agreement is now high on political agenda’s around the globe. The increasing natural disasters in so many fast growing delta areas emphasize the urgency of accelerating action, including the need for knowledge exchange and applicability of knowledge, which is the core of the Delta Alliance. Currently, the Delta Alliance finds itself in a dynamic and promising institutional context. Two years ago the Delta Coalition was established, constituting a more political collaboration between delta countries. Most recently, the highly anticipated Global Centre of Excellence on Climate Adaptation (GCECA) will be launched at COP 23. GCECA is hosted by the Netherlands, in close cooperation with UNEP, Japan and other partners, including the Delta Alliance. Deltas being one of the core themes of the GCECA, alignment with the activities of the Delta Alliance are now high on the agenda of both institutes. This looks very promising. The Delta Alliance started off as a part of the Knowledge for Climate Research programme, but is has evolved into an independent foundation with an emphasis on enhancing the exchange of knowledge between the vulnerable Deltas in the world and strengthening the network of the wings. It is time to develop a new strategy for the coming years and time to make room for new people. Chair International Governing Board Director Delta Alliance The new Chair and new Director will start on 1 November 2017.
