International Governing Board Meeting 2013

The International Governing Board has met on June 27, 2013. The Board was pleased with the progress since the 1st meeting and the international positioning of the Delta Alliance. The Board is also aware of the challenges that Delta Alliance has to face for the future.

The Board supports the formulation of the joint GWP – Delta Alliance Enabling Delta Life Initiative: a Global Program of Action on Deltas.

The Board agrees that the secretariat needs structural funding. The Board supports the initiative that the Dutch Wing could become the knowledge portal for the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment and for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Board advises to formalize this role through a Memorandum of Understanding between Delta Alliance and the respective ministries, and to assure through such MoU’s structural funding for Delta Alliance.

The Board approves the proposition to formalize the relations with the Wings through a Membership Agreement between the Wings and Delta Alliance International and approves the draft text for the Membership Agreement.
The Board decides that the Delta Alliance should become an open network: all candidate Wing networks that are willing and able to comply with the conditions of the Member Agreement can, after approval by the Board, become member of the Delta Alliance International network.

The Board underscores the necessity that Delta Alliance should become an independent, autonomous network. For funding organizations it becomes more transparent if contracts and agreements can be directly concluded with the Delta Alliance International Foundation. Projects should, however, beimplemented by the Delta Alliance partners in the various Wings.
