  • Second Delta Alliance mission
From January 6 - 11, 2011 a second Delta Alliance mission to Bangladesh took place. The mission was linked to the 3rd International Conference on Flood and Water Management (ICWFM 2011) which was organized by the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Delta Alliance representatives were invited to give a key note speech during the conference.
The Institute of Water Modeling (IWM) in Bangladesh organized a Delta Alliance meeting linked to the conference. IWM played a large role in establishing the Bangladesh Wing of Delta Alliance and functions as the coordinating agency. The Executive Director of IWM, Prof. Dr. M. Monowar Hossain, is assigned as the Wing coordinator in Bangladesh.
One of the conference meetings focussed particularly on the establishment of the Delta Alliance Bangladesh Wing. Almost 40 invitees from research institutes, governmental and non-governmental organisations and universities attended the session (e.g. from WARPO, BWDB, ECOMAC, CEGIS, BARC, IWM, BCAS, BIDS, BUET, Bangladesh Agricultural University Mymensing, BRAC University, and LGED). Kees Slingerland, the chairman of Delta Alliance, presented the mission and objectives of Delta Alliance. The Delta Alliance program manager presented the various Wings and illustrated the links with the Water Mondiaal programme.
