Webinar: What makes an urban delta resilient? (15 December 2016)
With increasing pressure from population growth, urbanisation, industrialisation and a changing climate, it is more important than ever that Deltas, with valuable and vulnerable locations increase their resilience to changing conditions. A key aspect of urban delta areas’ resilience is spatial planning and design. A host of examples from across the world show consensus about the need for adaptive planning that provide room for the natural dynamics of rivers and sea instead of trying to control these dynamics completely. Another recurring challenge is the need to balance the demands of urban development with the necessity to protect the natural environment of the area. In a webinar on December 15 at 1400 CET (click here to check your local timings), these issues will be discussed through examples from the Parana Delta (Argentina), New Orleans (United States), and The Netherlands.
