DIMI on Tour 2015! Adaptive Delta Management Theory and practice (4 June 2015)

Datum: 04-06-2015
Tijd: 00:00
Locatie: Faculty CEG, College room E & PSOR, Delft

This session of DIMI on tour focusses on Adaptive Delta Management (ADM, see also book). Deltas are generally recognized as vulnerable to climate change and therefore a salient topic in adaptation science. Deltas are also highly dynamic systems viewed from physical (erosion, sedimentation, subsidence), social (demographic), economic (trade), infrastructures (transport, energy, metropolization) and cultural (multi-ethnic) perspectives. This multi-faceted dynamic character of deltas is more and more recognized.

The focus on adaptation in deltas is broadening from single issue climate adaptation to multi-issue adaptation. Adaptive Delta Management  commenced as the application of the Adaptive Policy Making and Dynamic Adaptive Policy Pathways developed in science to delta management, primarily by professionals in the Delta Program in the Netherlands. Over the last years the scientific and professional tracks have increasingly disconnected. At the same time ADM diffused internationally via the work of Dutch consultants, the Delta Program, scientific research and conferences and the Delta Alliance. Meanwhile work on roots of ADM in science continued.

In this session we explore how science and practice can be reconnected to advance ADM and how transferable ADM is to other Deltas in the world. Speakers from government, knowledge institutes and businesses will share their experience and put forward propositions as a starting point for an interactive debate with the audience.
The session is co-organised by the Delta Alliance (www.delta-alliance.org), a knowledge driven network that aims to promote knowledge exchange between deltas and further development of effective management of these vulnerable areas.
